Votes for Women: Celebrating the 19th Amendment
The women's suffrage movement celebrated a great victory with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 18, 1920, although a continuing struggle for further legislation was needed over the coming decades to ensure the voting rights of all women, including Native and African American women. Over one hundred years later, we recognize the efforts of the leaders who found the spotlight as well as those who worked without recognition to secure women the right to vote in the United States.
