Last week I'd've stated categorically that a man who runs around wearing a dead squirrel on his bald head could not be attractive. I also confess that this season had me screaming at the TV, an involuntary reaction that only the best shows provoke (most notably, not much of a spoiler, "Uhtred WHAT THE #*€&??!!!" - and it wasn't about his disastrous fashion sense). Tip for the squeamish, when a recently wounded man, alone and centre in the scene, removes his bandaging ("Oh no, they wouldn't..") and turns slowly to the camera, just skip ahead to the next episode because they totally would. Not that there's any avoiding the violence. The battle scenes are the best ever on TV, slightly superior to Game of Thrones. One thing this show is doing far better than GoT is sensitive portrayals of loves, loyalties, and friendships, all the relationships people have with their families, their gods, and their dreams. Uhtred has loving bonds with men (no homo) and can also be soul friends with women, which is rare enough in real life and on TV I can only think of the incredible relationship between Don/Peggy on MadMen, so you see how I can overlook the dead squirrel. In conclusion, it keeps getting better and I can't wait for season 4.
