A rare misfire but a misfire nonetheless. I've read every novel in the Alex Delaware/Milo Sturgis series and while one always has to suspend disbelief in these types of novels, this one defied suspension! The characters were not at all likeable (even in the "love to hate" descriptive sense) and the story line flat out preposterous (IMHO). The only other novel that was this bad was "The Web" written back in 1996. Talk about implausible!! Anyway ... I won't give up on the series if he keeps writing them. I suspect he may be stretching himself a bit thin since he started co-writing novels with his son Jesse. Admirable, yes ... but at the expense of his best series? Not to me. Seems Alex/Milo and the rest of the gang have become afterthoughts ... and unfortunately ones that leave this reader craving the old Alex.
