Bear is sure that he has all the stories and books that he needs at home. He has tales about kings and queens; he has books about honeybees, and he even owns a book about pickles. In total, he owns seven books! Why should he bother going to the library? His bright-eyed little friend, Mouse, thinks differently. Eventually, the two put on some roller skates and make their way to the “big” library. Once there, they are in a pickle. Not only is Bear quite grumpy (as usual), but he proves to have some VERY picky literary tastes! He is not interested in books about rocket ships or canoes. He is not interested in blue books – or books of any other colour. He is especially not interested in stories about dancing pickles. Later, as Bear bellows for quiet in the library, he happens upon something that captures his attention … and changes him into an enthusiastic library user! A Library Book for Bear is the latest addition to Bonny Becker’s witty picture book series about a big curmudgeonly bear and an always-cheerful little mouse. Children will also enjoy A Birthday for Bear, The Sniffles for Bear and the other titles in the series, in which Kady MacDonald Denton’s detailed watercolour illustrations capture the expressions of the two friends perfectly.
