This is Cornwell's 10th book in this series and probably the one with the least historical value although Cornwell always explains his variations from history in the interests of a good story. Uhtred of Bebbanburg, at last, takes steps to recover Bebbanburg castle as he has been promising to do for the last nine books. This book was worth it for that alone. The political maneuvering, deceit, and battles, of Saxon Britain are here as well.
