a Beautiful Idols Novel
Jul 20, 2017TEENREVIEWCREW rated this title 4 out of 5 stars
Alyson Noel’s Unrivaled is a passionate and addictive book! Layla Harrison runs her own celebrity blog where she reveals celebrity secrets, but her dream is to become a journalist. Tommy Philips moved from Oklahoma to Los Angeles with a dream of becoming a famous musician and tries to get back into his infamous dad’s life who doesn’t even know he exists. Aster Amirpour lives in a Mediterranean mansion and aspires to become an actress, opposing her parents’ dreams for her to get married off to a rich man. Then there is Madison Brooks who is already living her dream and is Hollywood’s most popular teen star. With her attractive celebrity boyfriend, her life is filled with fame and money. Ira Redman is the owner of all the Hollywood clubs and is in need of club promoters, and the person who wins the competition is in for big cash. Layla, Tommy, and Aster are in for the money and the fame that may follow, and their target for the win, is Madison. But after Madison suddenly disappears, their dreams start to fade away. I give this book a 4/5 star rating. I recommend this book for ages 14 and up. - @ilovefood of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board With the ways that "clubs" and partying was portrayed, this book reminded me vaguely of The Thousandth Floor. I compared Avery Fuller to the "girl who is everything" Aster, and found it interesting how so many writers and authors like finding a "perfect" girl image flawed. Why aren't "flawed" characters that are otherwise perfect shown more often? Is it because readers wouldn't accept them? That is debatable. But readers should be at least over 15 reading this series, as there are explicit uses of drugs, alcohol, and detailed segments of relationships. I am debating reading the next book, but this really wasn't my favourite. - @Siri of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
