Filmed in the natural style with much subtext. Definitely an adult movie made for the thoughtful and mature viewer. A talented musical family unpinned from itself and from society, completely under the sway of their own relationship troubles. Some very subtle Freudian dynamics at work between the characters. It was odd how the family had such intimate connections--and they are quite civil with each other--however were overwhelmed by the external power of their own difficulties. In this way it is quite different from The Squid and the Whale. It would be great to have a follow up on the lives of the children as they get older.
