Still Foolin' 'em

[Where I've Been, Where I'm Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys?]

Hollywood fluff, but still an entertaining listen. The audiobook is the preferred media for this volume, as Mr Crystal performs many of the chapters in front of an audience, so you get a little dose of Crystal stand up comedy. To his credit, Crystal makes no claims to a career of offering up entertainment substance. "Maarrrvvvelous" is about it. His act, his public persona, is nothing more than an entertainment business magic trick. He even admits as much in the title: "Still Foolin' Them". Crystal's contribution is to offer up a smile and some personal charm. When in front of an audience, even if he has nothing really to say, he's very good at doing. Crystal in fact clearly needs an audience, easily demonstrated when comparing between chapters where Mr Crystal reads to a live audience, vs when those he's reading alone in the studio. When alone, he seems very alone. With the audience, he comes alive. Pros: Live audience readings. Con's: Way too much time given to Crystal's sophomoric baseball obsession. If you can allocate some time to the trivial, just want a chuckle or two, reservedly recommended.
