Generally I enjoy mysteries by Scots authors. I realize I risk stereotyping as I comment here, but I think there have been some similarities, at least in novels I've read so far. Primary characters are often dissmissive of authority and suspicious of just what it is social customs are meant to preserve. At the same time they analyze their personal motives as the plot unfolds. Banks delivers the same types of characters here. Funny in an ironic way, often linking gangster villains with the status quo. Female characters are fully developed and pivotal in the plot's twists and turns. Good news is Banks has written several novels. Sadly this is the only ebook I've found offered in our library's collection.
