The plot covers a tumultuous period in English history and that makes it especially fascinating. However, the heroine is completely unbelievable. She's quite an anachronism. . . in those days women were property of their menfolk, and not trained up in highly skilled trades, unless it was their own family's business (in which case they were just an extra set of free hands). Enjoyable if you can suspend disbelief.
