I devoured the book in 5 days, got cozy with unfamiliar vernacular (coarse but lyrical, melody out of the crude, romance seeped through the harsh), disturbed by bloody violence (rivaled all the graphic violence visualized), feeling deeply, the characters (except for Babe Ruth running cameo), seeing vividly, the streets, alleyways, squares then and now... It was about a shameful past of beloved Boston. It is the voice of America! An easy read for many, but it is not easy to chew on the many thoughts generated.
