Where to begin....The sequels follows the stories of Jason, Kyle, and Nelson, introduced in the first book in the series, and the struggles they face after finally coming to terms with their sexualities--and the consequences that come along with that. I fell in love with the characters in the first book, and I wanted to read the second so I could figure out what happened next to the three boys. However, I was very disappointed with Rainbow High. Everything about it seemed repetitive and unnecessary. The characters were constantly bickering about pointless things, and while I understand it was supposed to add to the realism of the story, it was very aggravating as a reader. The story touched the subjects of HIV and fears for the future, which were handled in a mediocre fashion at best. Some parts of it seemed unrealistic for the time period it is set in--the early 2000's, where there were still large numbers of small-minded people--which took away from the whole experience. Overall, the second book was definitely a disappointment in contrast to the first. If a few adjustments had been made, then this would have definitely been a better read.
