A very well done dramatization of the Cuban Missile Crisis, from the point of view of the interior of the White House, with a senior aide to the President (played by Kevin Costner) as the touchstone character. The story drives up the tension like a slow burner as the administration faces what might be the final crisis and a nuclear war, and the difficult choices between diplomacy and military action. The director Roger Donaldson does outstanding work with this film as he maintains suspense even though the audience knows what happened, and the actors are well cast in their roles, including many Hollywood character actors.
