Add a CommentA very different culture, I am not sure how accurate it is to true medieval India. I imagine it is not far fetched. Wonderful scenes, loved the animals, palaces, and costumes. Highly recommend, in order to be totally captivated.
I don't get the sacrifice of the queen; I see no point in that. Other than the ending, the movie was not bad.
The dialogue is witty and cutting. Controversial ending. Beautiful imagery. Both of the male lead characters came across as prideful megalomaniacs, hence their over the top beautiful and extravagant surroundings. The two rulers must be very wealthy to spend so lavishly on themselves, but probably at the expense of the poor peasants and the warriors that died in their name. One ruler seemed more benevolent than the other more blatantly cruel ruler, but I had difficulties sympathizing with or rooting for either of them during their needless war. Not liking either of the male lead characters, the movie was unfulfilling. It's a long movie. The over arching story slowly moves along, but the many short scenes move by quickly, so the story feels like it trots along at a good pace. Considering the region's religious tensions, I wonder if the Hindu versus Muslim overtones are incendiary in that part of the world (or elsewhere). The Muslims are portrayed in a poor light. I'm a little confused as to why a Muslim would be so obsessed with seeing a certain woman, since his faith discourages such an act. (The woman in question is no more beautiful than the obsessed man's own wife.)
Padmaavat will go down as one those epic movies you should see. A touch of the Hele of Troy mythical story but different. Deepika is beautiful and plays the queen magnificently while Shahid Kapoor and Raveer Singh are the great waring kings.
This movie is a triumph to bring to life a fable from the Middle Ages, keeping to its themes while not suffering from the excesses of the studio epic.
Love the movie and a beautiful story, though i have no idea why some people in India were so offended by it.
Great acting too.
An amazing part of Deepika Padukone's filmography.
Five stars.
A very impressive, ambitious, dramatic, and visually gorgeous movie based on a 16th century epic poem. Entertaining even to those unfamiliar with Indian films.
