Set in the 80s on Cape Cod, this is an interesting take on literary culture and the paths folks take to find their own literary voice.

After 50 BORING pages, I quit reading so I could read a different book, one worthy of my time. She hit every cliche. It would have felt like a good effort if she had been a silly, poorly educated 16 year old. What foolish editor thought this book deserved publication ? And who recommended this book to me? I need to get even with that jerk.

Set in the 1980s, the novel is a coming-of-age story about 25-year-old Eve Rosen, who leaves her job at a publishing house to work for a famous author as a research assistant for the summer on Cape Cod. Beautifully written, it's a compelling story about a naive, aspiring writer who learns some hard truths about writing, publishing, and romance. Highly recommended.
