Written and directed by Ari Aster in 2018, this American horror drama depicts the mysterious events that happen after the death of their secretive grandmother.
Although the performances of the major actors appear quite plausible, the story seems profoundly ridiculous and unbelievable so that I quit vieweing when the glass moves by itself and a piece of chalk scribbles some words on the tiny blackboard.
I don't like this kind of scientifically inexplainable and unreasonable movies at all.

Scariest movie I've seen in some time. I did have to research it on line to fully understand it and then I watched it again. When a movie, like this one, can keep you thinking about it long after you've seen it, well, that's some movie. Toni Collette does deserve an Oscar.

Crazy movie, with a crazier ending. I still have a what did I just watch feeling. I thought Toni Collette was amazing in this film.

An impressive "horror" film without a lot of blood and gore. This film relies more on story and tense atmosphere that made me jump a couple of times, cringe and feel creeped out! There are some minor plot line holes due to direction and my lack of knowledge on ritual possession, but I conclude that this is one of the better films of this genre.
Decent acting by cast and is a film that kind of makes one question where family sanity begins and ends.
Special features on this DVD does have a few minutes of an interview of cast and director/writer.

This movie is fantastic. Definitely one of the greatest scary movies of the past ten years. Instead of relying on jump scares, it uses its natural elements to create a chilling narrative and atmosphere. It is gory and terrifying, which isn't for everyone, and it is incredibly dark, but for those who can handle it it is a gem.

"Not for the faint of heart" the library advises.

Hmm. Got a pretty robust ticker in my chest, but whoa...this film is GRUESOME. Not so much scary as just ... sickening.

Some performances, no question.

Now, it's not like I'm gonna rush out to see the (new) version of Mary Poppins as an antidote for this grotesque film, but there are better ways to spend your time, I think. "Entertainment"? I wouldn't call it that.

Not sure if I would consider the movie good or bad. It was different. At points I found it to be difficult to follow and at times I found the movie to drag on. I am indifferent to the movie. If a person was into Ouija boards or séance they may find this movie good. At the end you somewhat understand the point of the movie.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this film. Sort of love it/hate it. The film doesn't rely on jump scares, and there are no machete wielding maniacs in sight. A very slow burn film, where the tension mounts incrementally. But I came away with the impression: It starts out being about this family's mental health (Is the mother crazy? Delusional?) before devolving into an evil spirit possession film. One IMDB reviewer does point out some plot holes: Who'd take their kid sibling along to a wild party, like what happens party way through this film? No police involvement after the accident that kills said kid sibling? But some nice atmospheric moodiness or tone.

I guess that somewhere, somehow, someone will find merit in this meaningless, monumentally idiotic and bizarre pile of junk.

This was a really bad movie, but not the worst I've seen. I watched it all the way through, and have to admit that parts of it were beyond me. I also felt there was torture just for torture's sake, and I'm not a fan of bad things happening for no real purpose. The plot was bumpy and the characters were odd. I would recommend skipping it.

Annie: I never wanted to be your mother.

Peter: Why?

Annie: I was scared. I didn't feel like a mother. But she pressured me.

Peter: Then why did you have me?

Annie: It wasn't my fault! I tried to stop it.

Peter: How?

Annie: I tried to have a miscarriage.

Peter: How?

Annie: However I could. I did everything they told me not to do, but it didn't work. I'm happy it didn't work.

Peter: You tried to kill me.

Annie: No, I love you!

Peter: [crying] Why did you try to kill me?

Annie: I didn't! I was trying to save you!
