This movie is a based on a true story about two people Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp, they both meet and fall in love, and share a passion for sailing. They both find an opportunity to sail one of their friend’s boat to California, and they agree. During the sailing trip, there is a huge hurricane that is ever recorded in history, which separates both Tami and Richard and ruins most of the stuff on the boat. It soon becomes their mission to get back on to land somehow because their navigation system stops working. I rate this movie 3.5 out of 5. @BirdieBooks of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

Adrift is based on a true story which is both cool and frightening, it pretty much focuses on our two leads exclusive through this whole film. The two cast were amazing, there back and forth genuine and you really believe this loving relationship. The story telling or the plot layout of this movie is not your typical chronological order rather they do this nonlinear storytelling jumping back before and after the tragedy, at first I will admit that this felt jarring because you’re kinda like in this tense situation with the tragedy that was happening, the boat is maybe gone crash and then all of the sudden it jumps back to their loving relationship of them just hanging out on the beach but as the story continues this format does make sense because the balance of the good with the bad the before and after really gives the audience to almost endings to this film one to see how the shipwreck actually occurs and the ultimate conclusion for these characters, I will admit that this format may confuse some people but it does work overall. Overall, this is a wonderful true story it would be great for a date night and gives you thrill while watching. 4/5 Stars. @moviefanatic of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Very chopped up compared to the book. The plot in the movie is a mess. The movie could have been so good and rich if it had stayed true to the actual events as recorded in the book that was written by Tami who was the survivor. The actual acting was ok but that's about it. The movie claims that it's a true story but doesn't portray what actually took place. It doesn't rate even 1 star as compared to the book.

This movie kept my interest. I can't imagine having the strength to survive that length of time in an ocean and going through the hell of being at sea in a hurricane. And one of the strongest at that.

Totally awesome specially since it is a true story, I looked up the true event, yes miracles do happen,!
One thing this movie taught me is to never read comments, I have noticed in the past that some of the greatest movies I ever watched were put down as slow and boring, and I almost did not watch the movie because of that, !
Seems like small minds can not grasp true heroism, the resilience of the human spirit, the awesomeness, !

It is a slower moving movie. Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin are such good actors seperately, but didn't really have great romantic chemistry in this movie. Flashback scenes just made me want to watch the actual real time ship wreck/survival scenes. Shailene Woodley did a great job though throughout.

Hate movies that keep having flashbacks. When will they get over doing this

Produced and directed by Baltasar Kormákur in 2018 based on a true story, this survival docudrama depicts a couple stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean after a hurricane.
The film switches back and forth between love story and survival drama with a gripping central performance from Shailene Woodley.
Although the drama has a hook, a surprise, a twist that carries you through, the boat-adrift-at-sea scenes appear like the familiar narrative.

Typical Hollywood survival movie. Nothing new in the way it was presented. I'm sure the actual surviving of this event was very horrific.

I expected this to be boring--after all, "adrift on the ocean for months" doesn't sound exciting. I was planning to watch it at 1.5 times speed, but instead found myself fascinated that this actually happened to a woman. Trapped on a barely seaworthy boat, she spends most of her time trying to survive, but she entertains herself (and me) and stays sane by remembering how she got to this point--meeting, falling in love, and sailing away with an amazingly perfect guy. (These memories are what others are calling switching back and forth in time.) There are many more good things I want to say about the movie, but they would ruin the ending. Don't let anyone talk about the movie in front of you until you have seen it. And, please, don't listen to the reviewers who just can't stand movies where strong women save the day.
