If you can stay awake thru this, you have true stamina.
Long long stretches of no dialogue.

All a matter of taste. Straight away I'd say forget about typical ghost stories which are ordinarily meant to be frightening, humorous or a combination of the two. As with all films this one should be researched first. This reviewer looks past all the platitudes ("lovely, mysterious, cosmic," "a reflection on the enormity of time," and "inventive, artful and poignant") in order to rate "A Ghost Story" as simply unrateable, at least in any conventional way. If it's a Casey Affleck/ Rooney Mara fix one is looking for I'd suggest "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" by the same director.

Could see where this one was coming from a mile away. In its bold attempt to be profound it falls just short of insipid.

It's a different and quirky film.... sometimes slow paced, but overall interesting enough that I wanted to keep watching until the end. It makes you think about how we process and grieve death in all of its forms. I would recommend, especially if you are into independent film that's off the beaten path.

Sure it's boring at first, but the musical numbers make up for it. The ghost is a great dancer and I loved most of the songs!

A beautiful meditation on the meaning of life, death and time. A haunting masterpiece. Full review coming soon but until then I felt the need to address a couple of comments: Nate_2007 wrote "10 mins of eating pie!? What kind of movie is this!?!? I never found out what she wrote in her note!!!! What a pointless movie. Do not watch!! It will waste your time!!!!" Okay. So you obviously didn't understand the film. The eating pie scene was displaying M's utter grief of losing her husband and is perhaps the most affecting scene I've seen in a film revolving around grief and loss. As for the letter, it's completely irrelevant for us the audience. It was something deeply personal for the ghost who needed it to get to the afterlife and we don't need the letter to connect emotionally with said ghost. In fact, no one knows what the letter said, not the writers, or directors or anyone else. Rooney Mara wrote something on it and only she alone knows what it said. Another comment from user krvance wrote, "This film was pointless and boring. BTW, we never find out what she wrote in her note." Alright, I already addressed the letter so now I'll address the slander of you calling this film "pointless". Call it boring sure, but calling a poetic meditation on everything that we, humans, constantly think about is not pointless. This films addresses everything that keeps me up at night: the meaning of life, the afterlife, what happens when we die, human nature, loss, love and deals with many more deep, intricate, and philosophical themes. How is that not import? This films deals with the most important questions of life itself. I made it to the trunk dragging, pie watching scene, which is in the first 1/4 of the film and I said to myself " What the hell is up with this weird movie". I instantly rated it a 1 star and thought to be done with it. But oddly enough after the trunk dragging, pie eating ( I think its a quiche) scene it started to click along at a better pace. I'm not saying I wasn't on my phone the whole time, but it started to hold my interest in a background kinda noise way. After it was all said and done, I said to myself again " I certainly wouldn't recommend that movie to anyone." But here is the surprising part, I have been thinking about that movie almost non-stop since I watched it. Apparently something about it resonated with me and I keep going over moments in my head that I didn't even know I had enjoyed. I spent a few minutes describing the movie to my husband in a most animated way, which had me questioning myself again about my original knee-jerk rating.. So low and behold, I think I did enjoy it and I do think I would recommend it. A solid 3 stars for you, strange, provoking, artsy-fartsy ghost movie.

After reading some post I was not expecting much, it is definitely an "art film." And it was tremendous. Some of you mention the "pie eating" scene. The pie eating scene said more than most movies say in two hours. If you intellect is higher than bear breast and superheros, this is a move worth seeing.
