This exciting story of Emily is another one of Montgomery’s fine works. It tells the tale of Emily Starr, whose father dies of illness and she is handed to her mother’s family of proud Murrays. Here she struggles with Aunt Elizabeth’s strict ways and the interesting characters of New Moon and beyond. She is loved by everyone despite her small scrapes in the world, especially by her Aunt Laura and Cousin Jimmy. This tale also highlights Emily’s love of writing her memoirs and stories through her “Jimmy books” as well as letters to her late father and mother that make the story flow nicely. I love how this story starts with Emily being extremely close to her father and when she arrives at New Moon she becomes a proud Murray herself and grows attached to her maternal family as well. I personally enjoyed this series as equally as I did Anne’s! Rating 5/5

I love everything L.M. Montgomery has written and this is just one of many! All her characters including Anne, Pat and Emily bring something different and unique. The Story Girl and her short story collections are all truly amazing! She is one of the best female writers!

Not as good as Anne of Green Gables. It has some very dark and sad themes that run throughout making it a much more serious book and lots more scenes that tug at the heart and make me cry. Yes, I cried. Several times. A lot of this series is just waiting. Waiting forever, it seems like, for Emily and Teddy just to get together. If you are generally a patient person, then you'll probably enjoy this trilogy. Still good, despite the sad themes and all the waiting.

I liked the Emily trilogy a lot as a kid, but I think, upon re-reading it as an adult, I like it more now that I'm not using it to try to fill an Anne of Green Gables-sized hole in my heart. This series is less madcap than the Anne books; Emily's scrapes are less outrageous, but she has very real hopes and dreams and fears, and this is truly a great book for kids who have read the Anne series but might have missed this one. Also, as ever, LM Montgomery does A+ work convincing readers that Prince Edward Island must be the most beautiful place on the face of the planet.

For kids (and adults) too emo for Anne of Green Gables.

I recommend the 3 book Emily of New Moon series over the better-known Anne of Green Gables books all the time.

I love this book!!! It really shows the importance of family and friends. In my opinion the book is much better than the movie and if I had to choose one I would choose the book in a heartbeat.

Better than Anne-I devoured this in less than two days!

Even though it's not as popular as the Anne of Green Gables series, it's just as good, maybe even better!

I decided to read Emily of New Moon after getting the tv series. I thought that the book was great and very interesting. L. M. Montgomery has such a picturesque way of writing that captures her audience's attention!

Although the Emily series is not as famous as the Anne series, it is well worth reading. The tone is a little darker (in the later books) though so appropriate to start this series after the first couple of Anne books.
