Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a true renaissance man. Coming on the heels of his novel Mycroft Holmes, Writings on the Wall is relevant to nearly every social issue the US is struggling with in 2016: gender, race, religion, political party, and social status. Abdul-Jabbar makes an eloquent case for "political correctness." Spoiler alert: All human beings are created equal and deserve equal opportunities.

We have to begin fixing the system by rejecting the notion that our political candidates are saviors. It's not the fault of typical politicians that the more they make insulting, vague and factually incorrect claims, the higher they poll. The fault is in our starry-eyed worship of style over substance, of entertaining personality over enlightened policy. (p. 27)
