I love a suspenseful and full-of-intrigue spy thriller and this series had some of it with twists and the unexpected. However, I didn't realize there would be explicit sexual content, which I thought inappropriate. I would not have taken it out had I known. So I fast forwarded through those parts. Some really top notch British actors showcased, but the series felt unworthy of their talent. So Only 2-1/2 stars.

I had no idea that "London Spy" was going to promote gay people and most likely gay sex if I watched for very long. I oppose this type of entertainment to the max. So, after sitting through a few minutes waiting to see just what was going to be the scenario I stopped the DVD and will be happy to get rid of it!!

I'm not going to lie, but London Spy surprised me in many different ways. What begins as a seemingly normal romance between a self-indulgent, somewhat idealistic young man who's experienced a number of traumatic events and an enigmatic, socially awkward, secretive gentleman quickly turns into an espionage thriller. The actors are brilliant, especially Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent who are clear standouts. Part of what makes this series succeed for me hinges on their performances, because I was not a massive fan of the story, and thankfully the characters are so dynamic and wonderful that they kept me coming back for more. Stylistically, London Spy reminds me of The Fall, which isn't surprising considering Jakob Verbruggen's involvement, and it made me want to go back and re-watch that series right away (which is a great thing in my book). I think that a consolidated version of the story could have been told in a two hour film, but I'm more than happy to spend time as much time as possible with these talented actors.

This series is a mess. It starts out interesting and well put together, but just degenerates into a completely unbelievable story line. Do not waste your time with this attempt at quality BBC programming.

A fantastic five part series. A typical brilliant BBC drama. Up there with "House of Cards". The actors perfectly cast and the photography developing the tension as the story unfolds. Making us all once again wonder about what goes on behind the doors of MI6. This time taking advantage of homosexuality as their leverage for blackmail.

Ben Whishaw, who has been described as one of the finest actors of his generation, tries hard to rescue this murky, meandering mess but this tedious, arty exercise is beyond help. Terrible writing crippled with dreadful direction. There are far too many scenes of the pathetic principle walking, waiting, riding--all supposedly to create suspense--before reaching a conclusion that is as ridiculous as the rest of the plot.

5 stars because it's that good. Yes, twists and turns but also some amazing acting by all. A quote on the DVD case said "Heartbreaking." It is but it's so much more. It made me a Ben Whishaw fan and of course Jim Broadbent is mesmerizing. New to me actor Edward Holcroft was also great.

This was an excellent but sad gay love story wrapped up in a spy mystery. Great acting all around.

Should be rated XXX or just porn, homosexuality. Very slow movie. The title is misleading children should not watch. Never finished it because it was so slow and what was given me to see was so bad.
