This memoir covers the years 1945 to 1982 -- from Carly Simon's birth to the end of her marriage with James Taylor. She describes herself as a survivor who wasn't loved by her father, stuttered, and was perceived as a "rich girl" whose family didn't have the money anymore. She also suffers from depression which wasn't diagnosed until her adult years. Although I found parts of the book interesting, especially the stories behind her songs and songwriting process, much of the book felt like a self-indulgent memory tour through a dysfunctional family, a smorgasbord of drugs, and every therapy fad of the 1960s and 1970s. On the other hand, this was the most impressive audiobook I've ever listened to by the author. She has good pacing and interspersed her life with relevant music that illustrated the people and stages of her life.
