Now a Hallmark Channel movie event, The Bridge , along with prequel The Beginning , is a heartwarming story of two couples who find love in a bookstore and experience the sort of miracle that can only happen at Christmastime.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury has written a modern-day classic with this unforgettable love story set against the struggle of the American bookstore. Molly Allen lives alone in Portland, but she left her heart back in Tennessee when she walked away from Ryan five years ago. They had a rare sort of love she hasn't found since.

Ryan Kelly lives in Nashville after a broken engagement and several years on the road touring with a country music duo. Sometimes when he's lonely, he visits The Bridge--the oldest bookstore in historic downtown Franklin--and remembers the hours he and Molly once spent there.

For over four decades, Charlie and Donna Barton have run The Bridge, providing customers with coffee, conversation, and shelves of classics--even through dismal sales and the rise of digital books. Then the hundred-year flood sweeps through Franklin and destroys everything. The bank is about to pull the store's lease when tragedy strikes. Can two generations of readers rally together to save The Bridge? And is it possible that an unforgettable love might lead to the miracle of a second chance?

one of my favorites!

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "Although not the season for a Christmas story, I selected this book from last year's book sale and only now picked it up to read. It was labeled Christian fiction and it certainly fits this description as God's blessing, mercy, and grace are ultimately revealed to characters within this story. This book weaves together two stories. The first is about a couple who own and operate a bookstore in Tennessee. They have passionately served their community and love bringing people together to share their love of books and reading, even offering books for free. Sadly they endure a catastrophic flood that destroys their store. Further tragedy befalls them and it seems that their hardships will devastate them. The second story is about Ryan Kelly and Molly Allen. Ryan, a former, loyal customer of "The Bridge", hears of the circumstances of the Bertons and begins a campaign to restore the shop. Molly also returns to town and although Ryan and Molly met at the bookstore and fell deeply in love, they went on with their lives separately without ever recapturing the extraordinary connection they shared. This book is about recovering love, second chances, and keeping faith. It's a sweet story, fast read, and delivers a lovely, heartwarming message."

A nice read, but I agree it could have been shorter. First time reading Karen Kingsbury and enjoyed her style.

I enjoyed reading this story, however it could have been shorter. There was a lot of description. Didn't feel that I have to finish it but I did any way.

This was a relatively short book, but could have been a lot shorter based on the actual substance. It was predictable, drawn out, and fairly one-dimensional. Not my favorite from Kingsbury, whom I usually really enjoy.

A hundred-year-flood destroys Franklin’s oldest bookstore, The Bridge. The owners Charlie and Donna Barton have made this bookstore and their customers their family over the years. Charlie has really helped several people. Long lost lovers are reunited when Ryan Kelly hears of the terrible state Charlie is in after an accident. Through social media, Molly Allen comes to help the town people’s effort. This book is about second chances for a book store and for a love affair. Excellent read. Reviewed by CP
