The first novel in #1 New York Times bestselling author Jan Karon's beloved series set in America's favorite small town: Mitford.

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet, Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's sixty years old. Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich comedy about ordinary people and their ordinary lives.

A heartwarming read where you will feel like a member of the small, country community of Mitford. The first book in a fabulous series.

The book was okay – but not one of my favorites.

I like this book and love the character Father Tim and the town of Mitford. But I only give it three stars because of the sometimes sloppy writing which manifests in the frequent use of cliches (someone seeing something "as if for the first time" three times in the first 100 pages, for instance.) I wish it had gotten better editing.

This by far is my favorite book. It is like looking into a life that is so lovely.

Review title: Marvelous Mitford.
Our protagonist, Father Tim, is rather charming, delight-filled, and down-to-earth. You'll probably "fall in love" with Barnabas, what a true friend. This small town parish story is sure to amuse and entertain you if you enjoy novels about the Christian faith and how the love of God is revealed in the lives of God's people. You will feel "At home in Mitford" as you read about this congregation and this wonderfully "spun" tale. :) :)
