I thought this was an excellent sequel to "The Inside Man". There was no lack of action and intrigue. I expect we'll see another book - Sam working for "The Church" and finding Mila. There is some uncertainty about Daniel and, at some time, Sam's comatose wife might resurface. We'll see...

I didn't like this one as much as the others in this series. I liked that Sam was trying to find his brother, but I didn't care for the Russian oligarchs theme (he sure used that term a lot in this book). The first 3/4 of the book I had to force my way through. Seemed liked it dragged on longer than necessary. Last 100 pages were good and made it worth my time.

Family is one of the central themes in THE FIRST ORDER, author Jeff Abbott’s fifth installment in the ex-CIA Sam Capra thriller series. The title refers to the Capra family motto, “we don’t ever leave each other behind”. In this latest novel Sam searches for his older brother, Danny, who was presumably executed by fanatics, but may now be alive after all. While looking for Danny, Sam must thwart an assassination plot against the Russian President. Our hero is rejoined by his mysterious partner, Mila and the sexual tension between the two ramps up a notch. Along the way they encounter cold-blooded ex-KGB billionaire families and their employees. As in earlier novels, the plot moves (for the most part) at a brisk pace with plenty of action, political twists, exotic locations, glam, and romance to satisfy a wide audience. THE FIRST ORDER is recommended for those seeking a good escapist read.
