As Putin has grown ever more powerful, the threat he poses has grown from local to regional and finally to global. In this urgent book, Kasparov shows that the collapse of the Soviet Union was not an endpoint—only a change of seasons, as the Cold War melted into a new spring. But now, after years of complacency and poor judgment, winter is once again upon us. Argued with the force of Kasparov’s world-class intelligence, conviction, and hopes for his home country, Winter Is Coming reveals Putin for what he is: an existential danger hiding in plain sight.

I learned allot about Putin and Russia from this book. It's frightening to learn what a turn for the worse Russia has taken under his dictatorship. He is likened to a Mafia don who has opponents assassinated routinely. The book is not very complementary to past and present US administrations for it's dealings with Russia and Putin. Russia today is a dictatorship with tight controls on the media, news and controls the so called elections in Russia. Everything is rigged and Putin and his friends are becoming filthy rich by taking over and breaking up companies in Russia. I will forever look at Putin and Russia in a different light after reading this book. Putin is nothing more than a war criminal who should dangle at the end of a rope.
