Sara Bareilles shares the joys and the struggles that come with creating great work, all while staying true to yourself. Imbued with humor and marked by Sara’s confessional writing style, this collection tells the inside story behind some of her most popular songs. Most recently known for her chart-topper “Brave,” Sara first broke through in 2007 with her multi-platinum single “Love Song.” She has released five albums that have sold 2.5 million copies and spawned several hits. More than a privileged view inside the experience of a remarkable musical talent—this is a moving tribute to the universal search for growth, healing, and self-acceptance.

I replaced this audiobook with one that I just couldn't finish because of how difficult it was to listen to let alone for the narrator to read. So this was kind of spur of the moment kind of thing for me. I badly needed something light but thoughtful. And being a fan of Sara Bareilles, I went with this one. I'm glad I did. Though I understand it was difficult for her to write the book, it is very well written. I also enjoyed the songs she performed at the beginning of each chapter in the audio format of the book. I respect her raw honesty and to be able to share parts of her life that were difficult. I'm sure many people can find that they can relate to her.

This book was raw and true exposing how such talent was developed along with detailing the hidden insecurities we all struggle to overcome. Sara is a talented songwriter showcasing the stories behind a few of her songs and the emotions that she strung together in tempo. If you love her music, this is a must read.

I loved this book of heartfelt and honest essays by Bareilles! Before reading this I enjoyed her music, but after reading it, I feel like I would be very happy to befriend her. Such an honest voice and a great role model for women, both young and old(er)!
