This is a book for a mother with a toddler who can relate to those trials and tribulations. For the rest of us, it is the most boring, drawn out, self indulgent book I have listened to in a long time. I skipped many chapters and could still follow the "murder mystery". I don't know why I stuck through the whole thing.

Lippman has a very special style and it really comes through in this book. I enjoyed it but I am not sure if people who are not familiar with this author would like it without having read her previous books.

Way too much of Tess Monaghan's personal life. Her 3 year old isn't that interesting.

Another thriller from Lippman, Tess Monaghan, now a mother in a committed relationship, still manages to find time for unusual detective work. In her 12th mystery she gets caught up in a convoluted story about a mother who has served time for murdering her baby and now wants a relationship with her older girls. If this is the first Tess Monaghan novel you’ve read, go back and try some of the previous ones, you’ll have a better idea of why so many of us enjoy this series.

Not Lippman's best. Partway through, I had to check the cover to be sure I was reading the right author. Less a mystery/thriller and more a family drama. Lippman is apparently a new parent, and it shows way too much in this book. I hope she can return to form in her next book.

Tess Monaghan is back, and Tyner Gray asks her and her partner, Sandy Sanchez, to act as consultants for an old girl friend of his, Melisandre Harris Dawes. The character depth in this book is amazing. It is not clear, anymore than it is in life, what motives Melisandre, her daughters, and ex-husband have for their actions. Although we see parts of the action from the viewpoint of various participants, we are not certain who has done what and to whom--and that includes some notes that Tess herself receives. Are they involved in Melisandre's drama or are they a separate thread? I was riveted to the last page.

While HUSH HUSH features an interesting mystery and heartbreaking incident at the heart of the story (what is the actual reason Melisandre Dawes, cleared of killing her youngest child due to postpartum psychosis, back in Baltimore after a decade away?), the real story of the novel is the home life of private investigator and long-time series lead Tess Monaghan.
