Odd little tongue-in-cheek comic horror piece from the popular author of *Eats, Shoots, and Leaves.*

A recently widowed and retired British librarian, Alec Charlesworth, receives a mysterious manuscript which purports to tell him of a dangerous and murderous cat. The cat also talks. Alec assumes this is silliness until the person who sent him the manuscript shows up at the front door and then is attacked by said killer cat. Actually, there are two dangerous cats, both of whom talk. The nicer one sounds like Vincent Price. Most of the main characters are librarians, including the REAL villain. If you can imagine this as being acted out by the Monty Python boys, with perhaps the occasional violent scene directed by the Cohen Brothers, you will have the right tone.

What a waste of time. The only reason I finished it was because it was a short book and I kept hoping it would improve. Disjointed nonsense.

Good book for the cat owner who's not afraid to second guess his cats. Stylish writing by Truss.

A creepy and funny story about murderous cats. You can read this as an antidote to all the cute cat videos out there. Plus, how can you resist quotes like "This man can't have satanic eyeballs, I thought. He's a librarian"?

Have enjoyed the author's non fiction but did not like this at all.

Fun, silly, nerdy, and quick. Believe it or not I actually found 2 typo's but who cares. Easily read in one night, a book highly recommended if you have always suspected your cat may secretly be trying to kill you.

I found this a fun read, part mystery, part farce. While this title has been published as part of the Hammer Horror series, I wouldn't classify it as such, though there are some creepy moments.

Very, very spooky read. There is a twist ending that sneaks up on you about an hour after you finish the book, and makes the ending ten times creepier. Hint without spoiler: the narrator may not be the best judge of what happened and is happening.
