If I knew that this book is full of horrible, hideous descriptions of crime scenes similar to the film "Seven", I would not read it. But in terms of crime fiction - the book is written well enough.

Whoa--This book is out there--I don't know what it is about these Euro/Scandinavian writers... I read alot of crime novels...You could see where the story was going, but the end... I like the depiction of violence as much as the next guy, but...
I hope I don't have bad dreams tonite...Putting "Alex" on my list right now... Pleasant dreams...

Whoa. This roller coaster of a murder mystery is dark. Dark dark dark dark dark. But excellent! If you are squeamish or find gruesome description distasteful, do NOT read this book. But, if you can fight your way past the horror, you will find a diabolical and twisting narrative that, even if you THINK you have figured everything out, will keep on surprising you.

This author is both excellent and not for the faint-of-heart. His villains tend to make Hannibal Lecture feel like Huckleberry Finn. Highly recommended.

Devastating.Don't read it without a very strong stomach. The translator has done a good job. From an English speaking point of view it is a little disconcerting that Commandant Verhoeven's given name is Camille which has feminine connotations although in France it can be either. It's clever. Most unenjoyable.
