Deborah Kerr, the great Scottish actress, plays a nanny of a troubled teenager played by Hayley Mills. We slowly find that the grandmother, the nanny, the mother and the butler (played by John Mills) all have troubled souls. Quite good acting by Kerr. What I didn’t know is that the grandmother, played by Edith Evans, normally acted in live theatre where she was considered to be the greatest UK actress of the 20th century. The National Board of Review listed this as one of the top 10 films of the year.

A must see Deborah Kerr masterpiece of acting. "The Chalk Garden" was taken from a play by the same name. In the hands of Deborah Kerr as the new governess to Hayley Mills, we have a fascinating story. The script is top notch and the acting by Hayley's father John Mills as the butler, rounds out a brilliant cast. This is no ordinary movie, the cast and script are too good for that. I hope you give this one a try!
