Mother, the only thing you ever taught me about the Sabbath is that Bergdorf's wouldn't be as crowded.

When my date takes me home and kisses me good night, if I don't hear the philharmonic in my head, I dump him.

Your average romantic comedy, save for a comic and genuine performance by Barbra Streisand (although by no means worthy of an Oscar). Add in a fairly notable cast (the likes of Mimi Rogers, Lauren Bacall, Pierce Brosnan, and Jeff Bridges in featured roles) giving satisfactory performances themselves and you have a decent rom-com film about a marriage of convenience and companionship, rather than love and passion, and the complications with vanity and vain people, and what appearances really mean. Its message is mixed at times, but it's easy to see what it's trying to get across in the end. Overall, unimpressive but decent and a good time-waster.
