For some reason, lately there are many novels, in which the action takes place in the small towns of America. This is one of those stories. The author describes in detail the internal torments of each character, as well their physical appearance ... And on the last pages, it is as if tired of these detailed descriptions, she has crumpled the entire end, so to speak, everything was "chewed up" really quickly. Disappointing, from my point of view the final, in the sense, that I was expecting that the person who was responsible directly for the crime, will not be one who resulted. The novel is kind of creepy.

It took me a while to "warm up" to this book, but glad I stuck with it:
The characters were well drawn, and
overall I could sympathize with them.
The novel is slightly slow to start, then
picks up toward the end. I guess the
only unrealistic angle was how
"Emily" finds the body--then doesn't
tell anyone!! But a good read, and
recommended for book groups.

I liked the tone of the book, but felt a little let down by the way it ended.

I listened to this book on CD and really liked it. It has a little bit of everything. A bunch of disfunctional people with lots of problems. School bullying, adultry, deception, and a lonely older man whose co-workers mistreated him. a whole mix of characters made for an interesting story. I did not like how it ended, feeling that some parts were not finished. left we feeling like I would like to rewrite parts of it.
