I'm early into this book but not sure if I will finish. If I read it right this guy has killed seven deer hunters over the course of a few hunting seasons for no reason other than they are hunting too close to his home. He decides a kid is a future serial killer so he kills the kid. He talks about sharing everything with his wife but he keeps a locked room where he hangs out. The author doesn't seem to realize he has created a character who is fully crazy and murderous: a serial killer who loves small animals. Kind of hard to take.

Also much gets glossed over. When he quits killing people overseas he gets a new identity but also forces his wife to do the same for no clear reason. The come to town and suddenly all the teenagers are hanging around their house for no clear reason other than the wife is wonderful with kids. Sounds creepy. There is no clear plotting going on and the story is told from inside the head of a psychotic killer. Hard to get into this one.

Readable, but:

1) Too many characters' names begin with "D"--confusing

2) Not credible that MaryLou's sexuality wouldn't be used against her by the prosecution team, no matter how inept

"Retiring to a seacoast village after a life in various war zones, French Foreign Legion-trained mercenary Dell and military nurse Dolly foster local teens before the shooting of a popular boy reveals stunning regional corruption and a brutal rite of passage imposed on vulnerable girls. By the best-selling author of the Burke series." September 2013 Thrillers and Suspense newsletter http://www.nextreads.com/Display2.aspx?SID=5acc8fc1-4e91-4ebe-906d-f8fc5e82a8e0&N=674857
