This documentary explores the evolution of psychedelic substances - their origin, discovery and uses. The work of renowned ethnobotanist Richard Evans Schultes and his protégé Wade Davis brought hallucinogens to the attention of the Western world and opened the possibility of the psychedelic sixties. From sacred plants to LSD, these substances were used around the world in different cultures, from native ceremonies to artists and musicians, to explore the boundaries of the mind. Among the interviewees are Dr. Andrew Weil and Grateful Dead musician Bob Weir.
