To Nilz in NZ from Canada- that's exactly what I was going to say. At times I put the book down to reflect.

Love this book! Found I had trouble putting it down :-) While in one hand its a novel written about a Japanese Buddhist Monk who goes to Brooklyn to set up a temple, on the other hand this books offers quietly little pearls of wisdom along the way, providing that you heart is open while reading this book - story. These little pearls of wisdom I came across, often would stop me reading further and encouraged me to spend sometime pondering my own thoughts while reflecting on what I had just read.

a funny story about a Japanese Buddhist monk who goes to Brooklyn to establish a Zen temple. the clash of culture, values and traditional Zen practises and rituals are challenged, questioned and altered much to the chagrin of the monk but Morais handles it all cleverly, poignantly and with an understated humour.

Do yourself a big favor and read this book. Allow plenty of time because if you are like me, you won't want to put it down.
I learned about Japan and it's culture; Buddhism and the practices of the faith, I was taken into the Brooklyn neighborhood to mingle with these very believable characters. I feel as though I've learned some real life lessons.
Buddhaland Brooklyn is now in my TOP 10 Best Books I've Read/to bad Mr. Morais has written only 2 books. (:
