L. E. Modesitt, Jr., author of the bestselling Saga of Recluce fantasy series, opens the door into a marvelous new world.

Millennia ago, a magical disaster caused the fall of a great worldwide civilization, the end of a golden age. New civilizations have fought their way up from the ancient destruction and chaos, knowing little of the lost world that preceded them or the details of its fall. Corus today is a world of contending countries, of humans, but also of strange animals and supernatural creatures. It is a place of magical powers, and of a few people who are talented enough to use them.

Mykella, the eldest daughter of the Lord-Protector of Lanachrona, discovers that someone is diverting significant sums of money from her father's treasury. While investigating, she uncovers more than she bargained for, and is sent by an ancient soarer to find her Talent in order to save her land--and her world.

To Abertasaurus: ???????????
Modesitt's character is interesting, I think this series could use a little romantical (does such a word exist?) falling in love sort of thing.
All in all, I like the setting and the strategical planning, and the world -and the book- are rather well thought out This book(s) also has a few longish, slightly zzzzzzz parts and a few parts in the next book I personally would have added more explanations for her actions. Also the end is a sort of brutal thing that I do not think would have really gotten more favor to her cause. Great book! All the characters have different veiws and motives and plans, which makes it even more interesting. I think that if you have not read this book and like a good, complicated world, a character who thinks and is smart and diplomatic, or a women fighting for rights in a place with power hungry and self serving men ( and people who trust the wrong person TOO much) you might like this book.
