operatic in scope, lush in colour, melodramatic.

nothing like his movies of 1948 and 1951 that focused on the working class.

A great film by Visconti. A tragic tale beautifully told. Remarkable that he could make Rocco and His Brothers and Senso. A true genius!

A gorgeous film but overwrought and too long.
