With a singing voice that can shake an auditorium, Judy should be the star of Darcy Academy, the local performing arts high school. So why is a girl this promising hiding out in a seedy motel room on the edge of town? A scathingly funny and moving book about dreams and reality, at once light on its feet and profound.

I felt the book started off rather slowly, but by the end, I couldn't put it down. While my high school experience was very different than Judy's, there was enough of the usual teenage angst with which anyone can identify.

It's probably not a good option for people who are more, shall we say, puritanical. They will likely be offended by the language and behavior of these kids.

Couldn't put it down once I started reading it. It's been compared to Stephen King's Carrie, but it reminds me more of Curtis Sittenfield's Prep. DeWoskin captures well the self-absorption and awkwardness of adolescence, which keeps Judy from being a victim of either her achrondroplasia or the events that transpire. Very compelling and relatable.

Rachel DeWoskin's "Big Girl Small" is an amazing book. It is about a sixteen year old girl named Judy Lohden who is extremely smart and unique. She is very original for although she is a new girl in a new school, she is also a teenager who is three foot nine inches tall. This little characteristic takes over Judy's life and is tearing her apart. She herself said that there is no point of living when you can;t escape from the situation that you are in. Although she receives a good education and is able to have decent friends who don't judge her, she does get caught up with a situation where she is video taped and after everyone sees this video, her life is just not the same. She even runs away without telling anyone but her family and friend support keeps her alive. It is a nicely worded and brilliant story which should catch reader's eyes easily.
