As close to the real story of Malcolm X as you will read, this book is heavily researched and documented.

A more academic, less biased take on Malcolm X. Lacks the beauty of language the Autobiography contained, but fills in many of the holes of el-Shabazz's life.

Bigger, better, badder than Malcom X's "Autobiography." Superb!

Malcolm X is a good biography to pick up if you're learning about Black History month which is usually all February long. Malcolm X I read in school a lot it was great to learn about his life through flaws he had and didn't have. One thing is a sure thing he was an inspiration to many black African Americans during the 1900's the time where Whites, and Blacks weren't treated as equals. That's another leader MLK(Martin Luther King JR). I recommend you pick up this biography if you haven't yet it's worth it to learn things you thought you knew about Malcolm X, and things you didn't know about the man happy reading.

Extremely thorough account of the life of Malcolm X. Well written, honest, thought provoking, and educational. High lights the passion of the cause, the greatness and the flaws of the man.

The exhaustive research behind this book is impressive, and surely worthy of the Pullitzer. And, Manning's treatment of Malcolm X seems remarkably even. However, to hang in there with this book, you either have to love Malcolm, or just love biographies, because the writing is not riveting, and the story is not a page turner.

I recommend this book for readers who are learning about Black History and Malcolm X. It is a very knowledgeable book and something to look into if you wanted to see his life from another perspective. This book was written by Manning Marable and he added more of Malcolm’s story that he told before. This is a great read. This book may not need a parents’ assistance for understanding since it is a biography and it is pretty cut and dry. Not only does this biography teach about Malcolm, but it also teaches about other historic people in black history.

A brilliant biography about the charismatic black leader Malcolm X. Constantly engrossing, clearly written, extensively researched with many new facts and revealing insights. This book richly deserved its Pulitzer Prize for best biography. Sadly, the book's author died before the awards were announced.

A comprehensive and very readable biography of one of America's most remarkable people. It corrects and updates Malcolm's Autobiography where necessary, but still makes clear that he was an exceptional man.

A well written although sometimes lengthy account of Malcolm X. The author adds in his observations and interpretations of certain events concerning the life of Malcolm X to give a full telling of his life. Malcolm came from humble beginnings fraught with a broken home and criminal activity. After serving jail time for robbery, he turned to the Nation Of Islam and became a rising star and disciple of Elijah Mohamed.
NOI sought an independent state for black people which Malcolm eventually rejected as he embraced Sunni Islam which was not race based. He broke with NOI after being suspended for making political statements about the Kennedy assassination contrary to the NOI doctrine, and formed the Muslim Mosque. He was assassinated in 1965.

Malcolm X's biography was written by another man who took information from his autobiography in order to inform others of all of his actions and movements that he made in his life.
