I picked this up thinking it would be a light and fluffy read, but it turned out to be an engaging story with considerable depth. It’s about people, really, not dresses. The author employs vintage clothing items – impressively researched –as catalysts to connect a multi-layered plot that involves both contemporary and historical elements. Phoebe is coming to terms with her own demons from the past, while helping an older woman come to terms with a terrible mistake she’s been living with since WWII. Sympathetic characters and a satisfying, though poignant, ending. (submitted by CC)

A frothy fashion fantasy involving designer frocks, a London locale and more than a handful of convenient coincidences, A Vintage Affair sounds like a fashionista's dream novel. Unfortunately, I failed to find any personality in Isabel Wolff's writing, which left me removed from the story and fairly unconcerned with its characters. From the expensive, high-end purchases to the bevy of boring, rich suitors to the entwining tearjerker storylines, it's the kind of lite chic lit that winds up some banal romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson.

I listened to this book and enjoyed it very much. The vintage clothing, movie connections, friendships and romantic relations are all very interestion. I would love to see this made into a movie.
