Love this book! Loved the suspense, horror (you might call it, thriller might be a better word) and I love the idea. Everything about it is GREAT except that one of the characters is super unlikable through my eyes, but PLEASE don't let that discourage you from reading it, this is one of my top three favorite authors of all time.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this book. This book has been checked out a number of times, so I knew it was a popular title with kids. Now I see why! It's a great read, full of suspense, imaginary creatures, fantastical happenings--and one really terrific plot. Marshall, aka Marsh, is in for a dreadfully boring summer when his best friend gets sent away to the family cottage for hawking counterfeit tickets. But his humdrum days soon speed up when the fantastical character he's been drawing in his sketchbook turns into a real creature who is after him. I was kept interested all the way through the book. A good ending as well that ties in nicely to the next title in this series, "The Black".

Really good book. The second one is even better though.

I just read the prologue and the last 2 sentences and it got me scared.

Not quite as good as most of MacHale's books but it is still a great read. I suggest that all readers read MacHale's 10 book Pendragon Series. You will be hooked on the first book,'The Merchant of Death.' Doctor-at-Bass T. A.

I absolutely LOVED this book! The plot was well thought out. It was a mix of mystery, suspense, action/adventure, and a hint (just a hint) of a little romance (very very little). The author did a great job with characterizing the main characters; I found myself thinking that I would have done and thought the same things/way as they did were I put under the same situations. I could not put it down (I tried), the story kept going, it never lagged on, and it ended with more questions being asked than answered.
Can't wait till Morpheus Road: The Black comes out!
