How lightly this series wears its age! Over twenty years it's been, since I first watched it, but the charm persists. I confess that Colin Farrell was the initial draw -- only 22 at the time, how fresh and young he seems here! -- but what ultimately held me was the rest of the ensemble. --

(Incidentally, the casting is by the same couple that now works on "Vikings.")

Just when I thought I'd love this series again, boom! Another beloved character, the 3rd one now, bites the dust!
The thing about this series is that you become emotionally invested in the characters. When the actors leave, why can't they have a satisfactory exit?
I do like the new characters, all in all. I like the glimpse into small town living, almost like living in another, gentler time. I hope the next two seasons don't rip our hearts out again!

Lost its way big time. Plus the accents are getting harder to understand as the series progresses. It almost feels like there is another writer in charge of the chapters. We watched just one episode of the second disc. And annoying Colin Farrell just made me want to slap some common-sense on him! Still the same charming little village, wonderful music, but even some of the old characters--like O'Kelly--were pathetic. Almost everybody acting like they are teenagers. Unwatchable.

Very hard to follow the emotional impact of the end of season three, but, for the most part, a reasonable job. Explorations of subsidiary characters worked quite well, overall, and the new additions were interesting. However, the characters (particularly Orla) are often uneven in this season, and the final episode was very sloppy indeed.

I loved, loved, loved this series - until the plot twists violently at the end of Series 3 (which shocked the UK when it originally aired) and two beloved characters leave the series. But, up to that point, there is a lot of humor, romance and quirky characters to enjoy.
