Add a CommentWhen the whole cast of a film is comedic actors and actresses, you expect a comedy. This, however, is not the comedy you expect, in the vein of typical Judd Apatow material. This film is surprisingly real, more dramatic and brutally honest than it is laugh-a-minute. However, the film is not a disappointment. It is not what you thought you were spending your money on; it's much more. Kudos to Leslie Mann and Adam Sandler at their best.
i don.t understand why you would call this movie 'dullsville'-it is far from it. Adam does play a more serious role, but this is WAAAYYY better than Spanglish. My 17 year old son also liked this I've watched this twice this year and I seldom watch movies more than once.
The movie was excellent for an hour and a half or so, then I think the running time got a little too long. However, don't get me wrong, it was still a really really good movie, and just for that first little bit it is worth watching the whole thing. I personally enjoyed the subject matter because I am starting to get into performing standup myself!!
Overlong, but I suppose I don’t go see a Judd Apatow movie for tightly constructed filmmaking but rather for all the amusing jokes. And there are enough funny bits in this one to keep things enjoyable--even though (and I realize this is part of the point) Sandler’s character isn’t super likeable.
Awful don't bother. Not at all a laugh a minute comedy. Very slow and awkward.
A really funny movie, with food for thought. Enough to make you an Adam Sandler fan. It's a bit of a different role for him. Seth Rogen's also very good. Great ensemble cast and crew.
Worth watching
Made me laugh!
So glad I never went to the movies to see this one. It had it's funny moments, but overall it wasn't really funny. Then again, Adam Sandler movies aren't really known for being the best of the crop. Watch it with someone who always laughs at stupid jokes. That way you are bound to laugh more!
“Funny People” is not always funny and this is okay since it takes a serious look at what it is to be a comedian. However, I felt that there were two movies in one: the first has Adam Sandler’s character dealing with his medical diagnosis and the second has him carry on after his health improves. Thus, the film just seemed too long and after a while, it became tedious to watch.
