meh, this author uses 1000 words to describe things that should take 100 words (no wonder Stephen King sings his praises). The first person perspective of an immature female teenager doesn't work for me. I gave this book and Marsbound a try and heard Earthbound isn't good. I would skip this trilogy...it feels like a Lifetime Movie set in Space.

Felt like the book was building something epic for the end - so ploughed through some of what became tedious 1st person view juggling. Thoroughly disappointed; IMO pretty boring.

The triple-first-person narrative is a *bit* hard to follow, but usually you get a pretty early clue whether it's Carmen, Namir or the Martian who is talking.
The humour is spot on, as the two races try understand each other.
It's not a deep, intellectual novel, but it has a nice pace and I was able to cruise through without ever feeling bored.
This isn't a "beat the aliens at the end with a science trick" kind of book though. It's a much more realistic look at what it would be like to run into a civilization way, way more advanced than we are - who aren't particularly nice.

This book is written in first person, but each chapter is a different character's point of view with no indication of who 'I' is. Did not finish.

Liked "Marsbound", but just couldn't get into this one. Didn't finish it.

Plenty of messages in a fast-moving and exciting plot.
