Emilie Dequenne plays Charlotte, a film sound engineer, while estranged from her mother, finds that her mother has been mysteriously murdered in her country house, and the police are not close to finding the murderer. Charlotte moves into the house and finds she has the power of reenacting her mother’s last days using her sound engineering techniques in the house. For me, this seems to me to be magical realism, a literary device Gabriel Marcia Marquez Garcia used to enrich his literary tales. This film requires that Dequenne portray a wide range of emotions and she is quite able as she also demonstrates profound emotions in other critically awarded films such as “Rosetta,” “Our Children,” and “The Girl on the Train.”
