In director Randa Chahal Sabbag's fairytale for troubled times, sixteen-year-old Lamia must cross a border checkpoint between Lebanon and Israel to marry a man she has never met. Neither she nor her betrothed are eager to consummate the marriage, a matter further complicated by Lamia's surprising admission that she is in love with the Israeli soldier guarding the border.

'the men have decided'

Lamia must make the lonely walk across the border, leaving everything she knows and everyone she loves, to marry a cousin who doesn't want her just as much as she doesn't want him.

failure to follow the elders' decision will lead to being ostracized.

fairytale-ish, in a grim way

Syrian Bride is a more complex view of middle east culture and cross-border marriages.

A very good, heartfelt movie. A study into the middle-east cultures and the politics of the border guarding. There are implications of having relatives on the each side of the border. Love knows no borders, sometimes. One couldn't help, but root for the young woman. I was hoping for a better ending. Great cast and acting. It would have been good to have the Extra footage: Comments from the Director, etc.
