When Harry Dean Stanton passed away
the Library's search engine showed Private Benjamin was available.
I enjoy Harry's voice, body language, and attitude;
and the same with cute Goldie Hawn and sassy Eileen Brennan.

BUT ★ this movie is as frustrating as Windows 10 !

Here in 2017, this 1980's "entertainment" is a black-eye to the modern (sane) women, of which there are very few in Seattle. The movie starts off with a scatter-brained Codependent snow-flake getting used by her new (second) husband as a fashion accessory, and leaves her unexpectedly to "find herself". She lands in the army, because she's an airhead looking for a spa. She has no female or male friends to brainstorm the ideas of going into the army, and she's too pigheaded to inquire from any of her elders if the army is right for her fragile, sheltered, naive personality. She just goes; and gets pooped on by the lesbian in charge. THIS was the funny part ... in the 1980s. I found it stupid. But.. "in for a penny - in for a pound". I stuffed my face with comfort food on a rainy day and rolled my eyes throughout the remainder of the film. Toward the end of the movie I had hopped Mz. Hawn's character would show some boobs, but.. no. (deep sigh) win-rare. And then some dude comes in the movie and uses her as a fashion accessory and we go again.

★ Eileen Brennan did a wonderful job being a bitchy lesbian sub. And honestly, three weeks after seeing the film, I can't remember what Harry Dean Stanton did in the movie; because the plot was "all about" the stupid snow-flake. Too bad.

The rain outside was "nice" though.

An excellent dramedy, I've always loved PRIVATE BENJAMIN. Equal parts funny and serious, it walks the tightrope better than most films I've seen. PRIVATE BENJAMIN tells the story of a spoiled Jewish American "princess" who, after suffering grief and heartbreak, is convinced that the Army is the place for her because of a wonderful recruitment pamphlet displaying condos and yachts in Europe. When she arrives at basic training, she swiftly learns otherwise. She slowly transforms from Judy Benjamin to Private Benjamin, learning the hard way and showing her worth. Goldie Hawn isn't what I'd label as stupendous at her craft, but she is fantastic as Judy, spot on with her performance; if anything marks her as a great actress, this is it. It's fantastic and utterly watchable every time. I highly recommend PRIVATE BENJAMIN.

Good clean 80's fun. Goldie Hawn in her prime rollicking through adventures in the Army and in love. 80's classic.

"What, the Army couldn't afford drapes? I mean, I'll be up at the crack of dawn here!"
