The Harunos are a rather unconventional, but happy and loving family. Eight-year-old Sachiko is bothered by her own giant-sized double, who hangs around sitting on buildings staring at her. Her older brother, Hajime, privately wrestles with raging hormones and a love-struck crush on a pretty new classmate. Mom struggles to come out of retirement as an animator and Dad is a professional hypnotist who occasionally plies his trade on his own family. Throw in two uncles and an eccentric grandfather and there is a unique blend of a family tackling the universal themes of time, family and life.

So in the first few minutes a youngster goes into the woods and finds a very large egg half-buried in the ground; it just so happens that just then he needs to poop, so he poops on top of the egg, leaving a large pile of feces curled up on it. Then a heavily tattooed warrior appears to this youngster a couple of times, with a large pile of feces curled up on his head, apparently the same pile - obviously we are meant to think the egg hatched this warrior who emerged underneath the pile of feces. Then a group of people find a skull half buried in the ground and guess what is piled on top of the skull --- you got it.......that's as far as we got......I guess it was some kind of Zen message about the effects of one's actions but there are other ways.....

running, attempted back flips, drawing anime, Go, the mountain song - what a strange 2 hours 18 minutes. but in the end, most of it hangs together. whimsy.

There is beauty in a slow, multi-layered movie; this is a treat for a fan of Japan. Very funny, charming and visually appealing.

It was too weird for me. I couldn't finish watching it.

Some scenes are visually appealing, but the movie is so slow and not very much happens. I just couldn't finish watching it.
