This is a documentary about the life in Antarctica, originally produced as a six-episode television program in 1993.
David Attenborough and his camera team spent three years braving mountainous seas, blizzards with 100 mph winds, plummeting temperatures and glaciers the size of cathedrals to capture the majesty of Antarctica both on land and underwater.
In this starkly beautiful landscape, they discover penguins by the millons, whales by the thousands, half the world's seal population and seabirds galore.
It is a gripping and fascinating documentary.

I played this earlier today. Comes from the LH branch. Around the 0:27:22 mark (from the first episode), the image pixilated. When I first noticed this (and after I had cleaned the disc twice), after the pixilization occured the screen would return to the main menu. After the third cleaning, the image froze, then jumped forward to another scene. I want to see if the episode was posted on youtube or not. ***** (Before visiting youtube, I chose to clean the disc two more times. The problems persisted instead of going away.) **** No luck with that site. I'll see if SPL has this DVD. If it does, I'll place a hold via that system. If not, I'll place a new hold (preferably from a different branch) here.

FABULOUS!!

David Attenborough is probably THE best documentary host -- I say "host" as he is much more than just a simple narrator! He knows what he's talking about and always makes it easy & interesting (do I dare say "fun"??) to learn about the subjects in his documentaries.I highly recommend this series for any age.
